Commissioned by the General Entertainment Authority (GEA) in Saudi Arabia and produced by Banader Al Khaleej Media Production, the show is aligned with Saudi Vision 2030 and the Quality of Life Program.
Al Hasan is an Arab adaptation of the legendary Japanese game show that originally aired between 1986 and 1990 on Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS), starring comedian Takeshi Kitano. In the storyline, General Tani, portrayed by Hayato Tani, leads over 100 contestants through a series of outrageous and humorous obstacles designed by the Emperor and his guards to prevent the castle from being captured.
The original dubbed version gained massive popularity across the Arab world in the late 1980s, broadcast on various regional TV stations. Its comedic appeal was amplified by the memorable voiceover work of Lebanese presenter Riad Sharara, later succeeded by renowned anchor Jamal Rayan.

The castle and its challenges are uniquely tailored to reflect local Saudi architecture and cultural themes, adding a distinct identity to the show. Contestants are eliminated upon failing challenges, and each episode culminates in a final showdown at the fortress between the remaining challengers and the Emperor’s defenses.
