Tomorrow, Friday, March 17, the Chess Competition organized by the General Entertainment Authority, in coordination with the Saudi Chess Federation, will start. The competition lasts for two days until March 18. It is presented within the activities of Riyadh Calendar, with the participation of more than 100 male and female players from various Arab countries.
The Chess Competition is held in Boulevard Riyadh City Arena, according to the laws and regulations of the International Chess Federation and adopts the Swiss system, where participants compete through 9 rounds based on the rapid chess system, Fischer, with a 15-minute game with 10-second increment, meaning that both players start with 15 minutes on the clock, and 10 seconds are added onto that player’s clock for every move they play.
The winners are determined according to the order of the first three places with the highest points according to the final tie-breaking arrangement. The first-place winner gets a cash prize of SAR300,000, the second-place winner gets SAR200,000, and the third-place winner gets SAR100,000 riyals. There are additional prizes up to the tenth place.
Eleven world-class players, with the title of Grandmaster (GM), the highest title a chess player can achieve, as well as a female player with the title of Woman Grandmaster (WGM) participate in the competition. In addition, six players with the title of International Master (IM), two players with the title of Woman International Master (WIM), ten players with the title of Federal Master (FM), two female players with title Woman Federal Master (WFM), five players with the title Candidate Master (CM), and two female players with the title Woman Candidate Master (WCM) participate in the competition.
