Today witnessed the start of the second edition of the Otr Elkalam TV show, which presents the International Quran and Adhan Competition, one of the initiatives of the General Entertainment Authority. The show is one of the prominent TV programs in the Islamic world and many other countries. It is broadcast during the blessed month of Ramadan.
The first episode of the show, which is devoted to the world’s largest Quran and the adhan competition, summarized the details of the first edition of the competition and its stages, which included great competitions between 32 contestants from all over the world. The episode also shed some light on the lives of the first-place winners in the two tracks of the competition (Quran recitation and adhan), a year after they won the grand prizes. The Moroccan Younes Gharbi achieved first place in Quran recitation, and the Turkish Mohsen Kara achieved first place in adhan.
The first episode, which is shown on MBC1 and the Shahid digital platform, also talked about the selection process of contestants this year. It began receiving applications to join the competition on January 4 through the website. After that, the contestants went through several online stages in which they were evaluated by 120 jury members. During the past months, they evaluated the Quran recitation and adhan of more than 50,000 subscribers from 165 countries. The preliminary stages ended with the qualification of 50 contestants for the final stage, which is held in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
Before the start of the last stages of the competition, the contestants were evaluated by the main jury and 32 contestants were selected, 16 contestants for the Quran recitation track and 16 contestants for the adhan track. The competition continues tomorrow in the second episode of the show.
The show’s first episode introduced viewers to this year’s competition jury. Dr. Fahd Al- Andas is the secretary-general of the competition, Sheikh Adil Al-Kalbani is the general supervisor, and Dr. Abdel Rahim Nabulsi from Morocco is the president. Bahloul Abu Arqoub from Libya, Meshary Al-Afasy from Kuwait, Ahmed Mansour from Egypt, and Ahmed Nahhas from Saudi Arabia also participate in its membership.
Otr Elkalam is the first competition that combines the recitation of the Quran and adhan and offers the largest prizes in the world in this type of competition. The total prizes for the competition amount to more than SAR 12 million. The show aims to introduce the world to the tolerance and moderation of Islam and honors the best talents in Quran recitation and adhan.
