The General Manager of Riyadh Season, Mr. Majed AlGharabi, crowned Northern Irish player Mark Allen as the champion of the Riyadh Season Snooker Tournament for the second consecutive year. Allen secured his title with a decisive victory, winning five frames to one against Belgian player Luca Brecel.
Mark Allen delivered a spectacular performance throughout the tournament, achieving a stunning upset in the semifinals by eliminating English legend Ronnie O’Sullivan with a 4-2 score in a thrilling match where Allen displayed exceptional skills and control, overcoming one of the greatest snooker players in history.
Belgian star Luca Brecel also showcased remarkable talent in the tournament, making it to the final after defeating Welsh player Mark Williams with a 4-2 score in the semifinals, confirming his position among the world’s elite players.
The tournament stems from a historic agreement between HE Turki Alalshikh and the International Federation of Professional Snooker. It featured an innovative addition—the Golden Ball, worth 20 points, which allows a player to achieve a maximum score of 167 points, the highest in snooker history.
It’s noteworthy that, for the second consecutive year, no player succeeded in claiming the Golden Ball, which offers a grand prize of $1 million, as announced earlier by HE Turki Alalshikh.
The Riyadh Season Snooker Tournament 2024 brought together the top ten players in the official snooker rankings as of the conclusion of the UK Championship 2024, held on December 1. This unique competitive platform reflects Riyadh Season’s commitment to hosting world-class sporting events.
